AR Requirements
1 st Williams/Walker –
- Begins in January
- Take one test per week minimum. Highest AR grade (percentage correct) for the week goes in the grade book.
- If they have two or more tests in one day, they can take two, and then everybody else is allowed to take tests. If time allows, they can take more.
- Students will go to computer twice a week, and they should try to have a test to take on computer days.
2 nd Selman/Greer–
- 1 pt. per week
- 4 pts. per month
- Must read and take a test on leveled readers (Red Star and Green Star) books from reading series.
3 rd McCormick/Roberson –
- 5 points per month (this includes Book-It – October – March)
- Each week two leveled readers that accompany the reading series are required (1/2 pt. each) These are read in class twice before taking the test during computer class. A grade is given based on the average score of the two tests.
- ½ pt. books are allowed, but students are encouraged to read 1 – 3 pt. “Chapter Books”
- No level required.
4 th Beach/Wilson –
- No grade level requirements on books
- Try to get at least one point per week
- Sometimes the teachers will put a grade in the grade book on a book that the teachers read to the students.
- ½ pt. books are fine.
5 th Teasley/Tyson
- Any level chapter book
- 3.5 reading level and above for ½ pt. books.
- AR 100 Bonus – To encourage students to strive for the 100 point club, students earning 8 points per month will receive an extra 100 reading daily grade. These points will be check by the teacher at 3:00 on the last school day of each month. Points from previous months will not “roll-over” into the next month.
6 th Adams/Gaddy –
- Recommend 4 pts. per week.
- Optional AR – Bonus “100” in Reading every two weeks if the following AR points are obtained by the corresponding date. Points will be checked at 3:00 on these Fridays. This is not a requirement, but it is a good way to stay on track of reading 100 points. The 100 points have been calculated to be achieved by March 6 because it is so busy after Spring break practicing for graduation program.
8/31/07 8 pts. 12/14/07 64 pts.
9/14/07 16 pts. 1/8/08 72 pts.
9/28/07 24 pts. 2/1/08 80 pts.
10/12/07 32 pts. 2/15/08 88 pts.
10/26/07 40 pts. 2/29/08 96 pts.
11/09/07 48 pts. 3/06/08 104 pts.
11/30/07 56 pts.
7 th – 12 th grades
- Students have to read on a 5.0 level or higher.
- Students will receive a test grade every nine weeks based on the points that they have accumulated.
- Points can roll over from nine weeks to nine weeks, but they cannot roll over from one year to the next.
- Students must make a 70 on the AR test to receive points even if the computer gives them points.
